Sustainability
Powered by Nature. Driven by Purpose.
At Ray Caye, sustainability isn’t a trend—it’s a way of life. Living 17 miles offshore means we’re not only surrounded by natural beauty, we’re also deeply responsible for preserving it. From how we power the island to how we grow our food, everything we do is rooted in our commitment to protecting Belize’s environment—while offering our guests a luxury experience they can feel good about.
A Private Island, Powered by Sunshine
One of the most common questions asked is: How do you get power out there?
The answer is simple—and something we’re proud of: solar energy.
Ray Caye is one of the only island resorts in Belize powered entirely by solar—an incredible achievement made possible by over 500 solar panels spread across the island, working in tandem with the revolutionary Tesla Powerwall storage system.
This setup allows us to:
- Harvest energy from the sun year-round
- Store power for use at night or on cloudy days
- Almost completely eliminate the need for diesel generators
Not only is this system clean and quiet, it’s smart. We can track our energy production and consumption in real time, ensuring we always run efficiently and sustainably.
Why Tesla Powerwall?
As the first resort in Belize to implement Tesla’s Powerwall, Ray Caye is leading the way in solar innovation. The Powerwall is more than just a battery—it’s an intelligent energy hub that allows us to store and distribute solar power 24/7, making us fully energy-independent.
This system replaces the noise, emissions, and unpredictability of traditional backup generators with something far more reliable and environmentally responsible.
What This Means for You
As a guest, you’ll enjoy every modern comfort you’d expect from a luxury private island—hot showers, chilled cocktails, air-conditioned villas, and power when you need it.
But behind the scenes, your stay is powered by 99% renewable energy. That means your vacation is not only relaxing, it’s responsible.
Few resorts can promise this level of eco-conscious luxury—and we believe that makes your time here even more special.
Beyond Solar: Other Ways We Stay Green
We’re constantly looking for new ways to lessen our footprint and lead by example in Belize’s tourism industry. Here are just a few:
- Organic Garden: We grow much of our own produce on-site, reducing our reliance on mainland deliveries and giving guests the freshest possible ingredients.
- Low-Impact Design: Our accommodations and facilities are designed to blend into the natural landscape and preserve open green space.
- Waste Reduction: We limit single-use plastics, recycle, compost, and manage waste carefully to protect surrounding ecosystems.
- Eco Education: Our team is trained in sustainable practices and happy to share how we manage water, waste, and energy on the island.
Join Us in Leaving Only Footprints
When you visit Ray Caye, you’re not just escaping to paradise—you’re supporting a resort that values preservation over convenience, and action over intention.
You won’t notice the difference in comfort, but you’ll feel the difference in purpose.
